Kiwi Tag – Rules

KIWI TAG GAME RULES                    The Basics

1 – Game time, 15 minutes each half, no halftime break

2 – Maximum 8 players on the field at once

3 – 12 players maximum per team per game

5 – Place kick on the halfway to start the game (any height)

6 – Ball must travel at least 5 metres forward on kick off, if ball is touched inside that, offending team penalised that touches it, if not touched kicking team penalised.

7 – If ball is kicked out on the full from kick off, penalty against kicking team on halfway in middle of the

8 – If the ball is kicked at kickoff & bounces over goal line, dropout goal line in middle by defending team

9 – If ball bounces at kickoff then goes into touch, kicking team plays ball 5 metres in from where it left

10 – A Tag is initiated when a defender takes 1 or 2 tags off belt of player with the ball

11 – Tagger calls held and drops the tag (don’t throw away) as soon as its initiated

12 – Tagged player plays the ball (with foot) where tag was dropped/placed by defender

13 – You have 6 chances of scoring, otherwise handover

14 – The ball has to be played backwards with the foot (rugby league style)

15   The opposition have to be at least 5 metres back from the play the ball

16 – There is no marker at the play the ball area, dummy half can run with the ball & score but if tagged,

17 – Opposition can move defensive line up once ball is placed on the ground by tagged player

18 – There will be no fending or tackling by attacking or defending team

19 – A stationary defender has right of way, if ball runner runs into stationary defender, penalty tap

20 – No bomb (above the shoulder) kicking in general play

21 – Diving to score is illegal unless opposition are no closer than 2 metres from scorer

22 – You can grubber kick anytime after the 4th

23 – The ball has to be carried over the line to score, no in goal kicks

24 – If the ball rolls over goal line at any time, dead ball, tap 5 metres out from goaline, middle of the field by defending team, if taken back by defending team, dropout goal line halfway between sidelines

25 – Any knock ons, handover to opposition, unless opposition gain ball, zero tag

26 – If player is tagged inside 5 metres of goaline, player must go back 5 metres from goaline to play ball

27 – Any unnecessary foul or rough play will result in penalty against offending team

28 – All penalties are tap kicks with foot

29 – Teams have 5 minutes to be on field with minimum 5 players after starting hooter, otherwise default

30 – There are no limits to males/females in each team

31 – No team can use players from other registered teams in same grade at any time.

32 – Referee’s decisions & scorecard is final, no matter what

33 – Field size, 30 metres wide by 68 metres in length tag has been initiated
