Netball – Information and Registration

Grades:
MOTHER EARTH Future Ferns – Year 1 & 2 – The focus at this age group is on exploring Netball and the development of fundamental movement and ball skills. The session will include skill development lead by a Junior Co-ordinators/Star Helpers for 20 minutes followed by a 4 vs 4 game on a 1/3 of the court comprising of a 2 x 8 min halves, 2 mins break in between.

MOTHER EARTH Future Ferns – Year 3 & 4 – The focus on this age group is learning the basic skills in a modified game, this is played with a 5 vs 5 format on 2/3 of the court.  Game duration 4 x 8 min quarters, 1 mins at each interval and maximum 3 minutes at half-time.  Rolling substitutions are allowed.

Year 1 to 4 comprise of 10 sessions.

MOTHER EARTH Future Ferns – Year 5 – The game is played on a full size court with lowered goal posts and is played 6 vs 6.  Netball continues to be modified for this age group.  Players rotate to prevent early specialisation in positions.  The emphasis is players getting plenty of touches of the ball and opportunity to develop a broad skill set.

MOTHER EARTH Future Ferns Year 6 – The Year 6’s play on a full sized court with goal posts 3.05m and compulsory rotation of players.  Number of players 7 vs 7, this is the final year that this age group will play 7 vs 7 as from 2019 year 5 & 6 will play the modified game of 6 vs 6.

Game duration 4 x 10 min quarters, 2 mins at quarter breaks and and at half time.  Kiwi Rotation is compulsory for Year 5 & 6’s every quarter to ensure that early specialisation in positions is avoided, and players get lots of touches of the ball and an opportunity to develop a wide range of skills.  Rolling substitutions are allowed.

Year 5 & 6 comprises of 2 weeks grading, 2 x 5 weeks round robin play (with promotion/relegation between rounds).

Trials – Please note that depending on numbers for the Year 5 & 6’s we may hold a trial to help determine where the children’s skill levels are at, and which team would be the most suitable.  If this is the case they will likely be held on 5th or 6th April, the children and parents will be notified beforehand.
